Waffle – July 2019

A right old waffle… (July 2019)

HELLO! WHAT’S UP? HOW’S IT GOING?? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?

DO YOU HAVE ANY FOOD?

DO YOU? DO YOU??

Everybody pipe down! Hello dear readers. It’s Waffle the goose here, and that chorus of quacking from the cheap seats are my duck friends. They are obnoxious, but harmless.

Things have been very busy here at the duck pond, so I thought it was high time that I tell you about it.

We are gearing up for the Lambeth Country Show, we are planning activities for the Summer Holidays, we had a big party at the farm in which us waterfowl were the absolute highlight of course!

But first I’d like you to welcome our two new trustees.

Stuart Peel is Vauxhall City Farm’s new treasurer.

In his day job, Stuart is a Finance Director at St James, part of the Berkeley Homes Group. He is a qualified Chartered accountant who earned his ‘spurs’ at Price Waterhouse Cooper.

Stuart is often to be found spending his time with his young family. He also likes to travel, experiencing new places and other cultures.

Samantha Norman is a journalist, novelist and television presenter.

A passionate advocate of the charitable sector she was a voluntary fundraiser for the charity “I Can”.

Her interest in horses and concern for disadvantaged young people led her, inevitably, to Vauxhall City Farm which, she says feels like a natural home. She’s often found playing with the Shetland ponies.

On top of welcoming our new trustees, we also celebrated Clive Conway, the farm’s new patron.

Faith Boardman, Chair of Trustees, hosted our first Friends & Patrons Party on the 1st July, telling guests about what we do at the farm and why the charity needs support.

You can read more about the Friends & Patrons Party on our website, or visit the Support Us page, if you’d like to get involved with what we do.

We were thrilled to be featured in an article by Will Barbieri in the SWLondoner, talking about our recent trips to Charing Cross hospital.

We took part in the Imperial Health Charity’s Intergenerational Project, aiming to improve the wellbeing of the elderly and make children less scared of ageing.

Head over to their website to read the article.

To make supporting the farm easier, we will highlight One Easy Way To Support Us in each newsletter.

This month, we’d like to draw your attention to Amazon’s charity scheme.

You can support the farm simply by shopping at https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ instead of amazon.

It’s exactly the same as Amazon except that you can nominate Vauxhall City Farm – displayed on Amazon Smile as Vauxhall (City) Farm Ltd – as your chosen charity and Amazon will make a donation to us for each purchase you make, at no extra cost to you!

The farm is getting ready for the Lambeth Country Show, which is happening in Brockwell Park on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 2019. The farm will be closed from Friday 19thuntil Monday 22nd ; open as normal from Tuesday the 23rd July.

Please come and visit us at the show or if you’d like to help out, we are still looking for volunteers, especially for Sunday, so please get in touch.

Lastly, we are making plans for the summer holidays! If you are staying in London and not quite sure what to do with the young ones, check out our summer offers!

We will be running Own A Pony days Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd of August, as well as our Young Farmer’s Club every Saturday, and we are running Cuddle Corner Tuesday to Friday each week, during the Summer Holidays. So there’s loads of exciting things to do at the farm in August!

And with that I bid you farewell and hope that you will have a wonderful rest of the month, and hopefully I will see you at the Lambeth Country Show!

Love,

Waffle
