Farm Futures: June 2024 Farming Adventures Await!

Hello, farm friends! We are Poppy and Petal, the proud mums of these adorable new-born lambs at Vauxhall City Farm. We have been busy looking after the playful trio.

We are here to bring you the latest happenings from Vauxhall City Farm. Let’s take a look at what went down in May and what’s coming up in June 2024.

Some highlights from May 2024!

This May has been absolutely ewe-nique! It kicked off with the birth of our adorable lambs at the farm. Come and say hello to us on your next visit, and don’t forget to join our **Lambs Naming Competition** to suggest names for our baby lambs! Enter HERE! Speaking of births, there’s still time to grab our Spring Birthday Party offer to redeem anytime in 2024, details are below.

Our 6-week programme of gardening clubs has been a blooming success, making The Farm’s Community Garden more beautiful and wildlife-friendly than ever.

This terms’ Afterschool Club has come to an end. Children explored, researched, and developed ways in which we can reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfill each year from repurposing waste, to designing a recycling station for The Farm and its many visitors. The young people worked really hard and had lots of fun along the way.

Finally, Young Farmers Summer Term 1 group had a baa-tastic spring, helping with The Farm tasks, learning about our natural world and getting to meet our newest residents, the lambs! And with Young Farmers Week kicking off today, there’s even more farmyard fun in store where ages 8-14 will learn about life on The Farm, from helping to muck out stables, to grooming our goats, looking after our guinea pigs and exploring our vibrant garden space. If there are spaces left, add a link to sign up or state if it’s drop in.

Education Updates!

We are having a baa-rilliant May Half-Term at The Farm with lots of young people joining us to experience farming life, getting stuck into running the site and looking after us and our animal friends.

Over the past month, our education team has welcomed schools daily to enjoy our Community Garden and take part in workshops. During our Meet the Animals workshop, they have got to know our smaller animal friends and learn about their habitats and adaptations. Whilst many other groups have explored the garden space and discovered where our food comes from in our Land to Lunchbox workshop.

The Education team has also loved working with secondary school students this term in our wellbeing programme, City Sprouts. It was rewarding to see them grow, building their confidence both as a group and around our furry and feathered animal friends.

Young Farmers Summer Term 2!

Join us for the Summer Term 2 of Young Farmers to learn all about animal welfare and how to care for us and our animal friends, great and small.

Also discover the importance of wildlife and plants on The Farm in exciting workshops.

Every Saturday from 15th June – 20th July (9.00am – 11.30am). For ages 8 – 14.

Our Community Garden News!

The garden is all plants GO!!!!! Fruit and Veg will soon be springing up everywhere and will be for sale on the farm. More perishable things like Cardoon, Kale, pumpkin leaves, etc can be purchased straight from our Gardener so look out for David to check what is available.

Check out the pond area. The toad tadpoles are getting bigger and are starting to grow legs as we move into summer! The Gardening Club put a lot of love into the pond area and have increased the diversity of plants both in and out of the pond.

The herb garden is becoming a beautiful show of herbs, edible plants, and medicinal plants. Look out for Aztec Broccoli, Blessed Thistle and Hibiscus – to name but a few! Come and take a seat on one of our benches and enjoy the sensory experience!
