The Riding Therapy Centre started in 2002 and its’ role is to provide equine therapy through various activities with horses: including riding for children and young people with disabilities, special needs or mental health problems. The therapy is provides a range of programmes and activities. The Riding Project’s aim is to facilitate and support our clients’ abilities and wishes. In the last 6 years we have built a strong working relationship with the Riding for the Disabled Association, external medical professionals and the supporting staff of our clients.
The aim of the project is to provide therapy through riding which is tailored to the needs of the individual child and is a spectrum from contact with the horses ~ stroking and grooming them, through to riding which strengthens the child’s muscles and improves their posture and coordination.
In addition many of the carers and parents of the children who ride have noted a distinct improvement in their ability to communicate and that riding reduces stress and anxiety levels noticeably.
