Youth

Vauxhall City Farm has worked with young people from its inception in the 70s. The remit was to involve the children and young people in the development and structure of the farm’s existence. To give young people the opportunity to gain an experience of growing vegetables and learning to care and raise animals.

The farm has continued to provide a service to the children from the local community and more recently we have been fortunate enough to strengthen our policy and activities in supporting young people in the borough.

Vauxhall City Farm and young people:
The Youth Volunteering programme specifically supports young people aged between eight and twenty-five who volunteer to work on the farmyard, riding project and in the community garden.
Some volunteers have special educational needs including behavioural issues, and have been excluded from school or refuse to attend. Volunteering positively enhances the participants’ self-esteem and self worth. The programme is currently oversubscribed and we have a waiting list of young people waiting to join in!
