Between 1972 – 1976, changes were taking place with large-scale demolition buildings in the area: of Italian Walk and the school on Laud Street and local residents protested the demolition of Louisa Court. This resulted in the setting up of the North Lambeth Neighbourhood Council (NLNC).
The Neighbourhood Council galvanised people, and in the spirit of taking responsibility for their community. In formal relations with Lambeth Council there grew licensed family and Land squats.
People expressed their ownership of their environment with youth projects spring up in and around Vauxhall. By 1977, a group of Architects were squatting St Oswald’s Place and began working a small plot of land. The collaborative projects created the Jubliee City Farm with local residents growing and providing for themselves vegetables and caring for livestock.
